We have been talking about 2009 and making some resolutions for the New Year. You might be doing that too. Each New Year is great because we start thinking about making changes to improve our lives. So, while you’re making your New Year’s Resolutions, we’d suggest that you add relationships to your list. You probably have at least one important relationship that you’d like to improve.
If you’re in a committed relationship and things seem to be going OK, resolve to make your relationship even better. But if you’re like most of us, there are likely areas that need improvement. We’d suggest that you resolve to take some positive steps to improve things in 2009. Now, if things are really bad, resolve to get some help. Go to our web site, subscribe, and get all kinds of good free information all year. Act now! Don’t wait until you can’t stand being with each other anymore.
If you are longing for an intimate, meaningful, committed relationship, then you also need to take some steps toward creating that relationship. Resolve to meet and create some new friendships in 2009. We stress the word “friendships”—with both men and women. Set a goal of meeting and getting to know one new person a week. Reach out to people wherever you go. You’ll be surprised how many are just waiting for someone to take the first step. Not all will turn into friendships but some may. Whatever happens is OK. Remember, friendship first is a good foundation for a long term relationship.
You may be a parent facing challenges with your children. Sit down with your children and jointly create a plan on how you’ll work together better as a family. Decide on rewards for their follow through and consequences if they don’t.
You may have a friend, a relative, or a co-worker who has been a problem for you. Take some positive steps toward resolving the problem in 2009. Even if they don’t respond positively, you’ll feel better because you tried to heal the rift.
Our wish is that you have a wonderful 2009 in all your relationships.
To your relationship success,
Jesse & Melva
